Aim & Objectives

  • Design studio is mainly a physical space, but it can also be pedagogical and virtual .The pedagogical design studio carries with it a certain philosophy of learning using a phenomenological and qualitative approach.
  • Studio is a place where the knowledge about buildings is applied, and it is where the act of designing, generating, evaluating, and developing alternatives is learned and practiced. A recurring challenge of architectural education is thus to integrate domain material taught in lecture format courses into the design studio learning experience. Integrating theoretical and practical courses into the design studio is one of the most successful teaching strategies as it has a significant role and direct impact on teaching architectural design The projects taken are cross-referenced throughout the other subjects to enhance their relevance, understanding of application and the students’ understanding of the benefits of a holistic design approach.
  • Developing personal and collective means, tools, positions, contents to act, think, develop and communicate an intended design-learning agenda in a particular pedagogical situation.
  • Our architectural design studios aim at developing humane architecture and consciousness towards climate responsive and sustainable architecture. That being the philosophy of Rizvi College of Architecture , it is incumbent upon us as faculty of Architectural design to imbibe the philosophy of our college in young impressionable minds who will grow up to become architects and shape the future world.
  • Architectural design studios are systematically designed to achieve the desired learning outcome. The main objective of our architectural design studios is to allow students to think sensitively and respect the social, cultural and local context rather than imitate some fashionable contemporary designs without understanding the context of their creation, the implications for users or the appropriateness of their solutions for the local context in which they are placed.
  • Although the schematic design and design development phases are strictly followed, emphasis is given on predesign phase, which can help beginners develop their creativity to ultimately produce evidence- based designs. Prime focus is also on the process and not on the product.
