First and foremost involving students in selecting the project. Keeping University curriculum in mind,
we provoke students to identify the problems they face in their surroundings. Most of the times our
projects revolve around humane issues related to challenges in metropolitan cities, environmental
issues, lack of public open spaces, deteriorating historic fabric etc.
Phenomenology becomes a priority and a part of design along with sustainable strategies. We believe
that architecture has to be sustainable and if it’s not sustainable then it cannot be Architecture. With
these values we are creating a thought process amongst students that makes them sensitive and
therefore we are assured to have a better generation of architects to handle the world.
Emphasizing on process based design and not on product based has inculcated a studio culture
amongst our students who consistently work throughout the semester and not only towards the end.
Conducting Design Esquisses intermittently throughout the semester and calling it ‘Design Week’,
where only Architectural design Studios take place throughout the week. This enables us to expedite
their design process if we are behind the schedule.
Collaborating with practitioners to bring in their industry experience in the academic realm.
Giving awards to students for best design which encourages them to perform better and create a
competitive atmosphere.
Integrating Architectural design theories in our studios.
Study tours are aligned with the theme of the studio as learning can happen effectively outside the
classrooms by learning the architecture that has evolved through a time tested process of evolution of
built form, technology and character.
Hands-on learning exercises on Design and Build on study tours and site visits.
Using media and audio visual aids to familiarize students to architects work and contemporary global
issues.
Site visits and analysis, conducting surveys and documentation of existing conditions, by interviewing,
mapping, photography, movie making, measured drawings etc.
Study of forms through various process models that leads to evolution of design.
Integrating the principles of Environmental Studies and climatology in design studios.
Book reviews to improve their reading skills, improvise the vocabulary and overall communication
skills.
Story boarding and graphically representing information from important books relevant to their design
topic.
Participatory debates on movies and documentaries displaying social, urban and spatial issues.
Introducing phenomenology in the subject and sensitizing them towards sensory architecture.
Group discussions and presentations by students of their research work.
Pin up juries at intermediate stages of Design and involving external faculty for alternate reviews.
